The old city of Krakow is still mostly surrounded by its original thick walls.
In an archway through the city walls, there is enough space for a Madonna with baby Jesus. I look at this mini-shrine as an opportunity for the Catholics of Krakow (& the world) to take time out of their busy day (as depicted by my blurred errand runner) and reflect. This altar was near a very popular McDonald’s in a touristy part of the city–a high traffic area.
Even for a non-practicing Catholic with a spouse working for a Jesuit University, I find that we could do with more Madonnas & less tacky posters & advertisements in our cities.
