On a stroll across the Vistula river to the ancient Krakow mound, we found a freeway mural covering the entire 1,000 year history of the city. This segment shows the last 100 years: partition and uprisings against Russia, 20 years of independence after World War I, Nazi occupation, Soviet occupation, then the liberation represented by the Solidarity movement and John Paul II. It’s a sad, repetitive story, but at least it has a happy ending.
