Polish bakeries are kind of the best of both worlds: they are happy to do both French style and Germanic/Viennese style, with plenty of hearty breads thrown in.
Pictures here are a couple eklery from our local favorite. They disappeared rapidly. The Mrs. was partial to one of their cheesecakes. I was more of a fan of their version of a Napoleon.
Another bakery around the corner was open until 2AM, so that late night wanderers could pick out their fresh breads before going to bed. They had a brown bread, very light rye, with a hint of sourdough, that will be my thoughts for quite some time.
