Today we made our way from Europe to Asia: Istanbul to Cappadocia (Kapadokya).
Cappadocia is a hugely important place in human history, as home of the Hittite empire (parties to the first written peace treaty in human history) and a center of early Christianity. But it’s better known today for its crazy geology, a landscape of fairy chimneys and cave dwellings that all are the more intriguing because people live in the middle of it.
This picture is from the roof terrace of our hotel. We looked over the unfamiliar landscape slack-jawed, like all new arrivals at the village of Göreme. But for some unknown reason, I’m trying to look nonchalant in this picture.
