The British heritage of South Africa lives on in the form of fat-laden foods like meat pies and, of course, fish ‘n’ chips.
Fish on the Rocks in Hout Bay claims to be the best fish ‘n’ chips destination in Africa. After enjoying their battered hake and yellowtail at a communal picnic table in almost gale-force winds, we suspect they could be right. There’s certainly no shortage of happy customers. And chili sauce is a nice addition to the usual salt and vinegar.
We’ll have to return for the fried snoek. It’s the other main option besides calamari or, heaven forbid, grilled fish.
