Pic of the Day: October 2

Shark Spotting began informally when local surf competition organizers asked car park attendants to keep an eye out for carnivorous sea creatures.  It’s now an official program that not only watches for sharks full time, but passes shark sighting data on to wildlife researchers.

If the shark spotters put out a green flag, everything is good.  A black flag means that visibility is poor, so they’re not really sure what’s going on.  A white flag with a black shark on it, combined with a loud siren, means “you should leave the water calmly, but immediately.”

The week we were on the beach was about average.  1-3 sharks had been spotted lurking by the shores.  Try not to swim near the chum.
