Our chalet at the Green Tree Lodge in Livingstone did, amazingly enough, have free WiFi access. The connection to the outside world was through satellite, so watching a cat video on YouTube might have taken down the entire city’s internet.
There was plenty of entertainment while waiting for a page to download. The lodge compound was filled with guinea fowl, rabbits, and the many family members that helped run the place, including little Wendy seen here.
Despite massive poverty (60% of the population living well under $2 per day), Zambia always felt safe and friendly. It’s a multi-party democracy, but massively in debt and, with 20% of its adults HIV positive, they have to dig themselves out of a big hole.
