The Melbourne skyline, with the nearest beach to our apartment (Elwood beach) in the foreground. Residing only a few blocks from the water, it was easy to stroll along the bay at dusk, watching fitness-crazed Aussies become even more fit. The level of public displays of exercise is mind-boggling.
Eureka Tower stands above the rest, the tallest residential building in the world if you measure the height of the living space (not from some sneaky spire or antenna on top). The 24K gold plated windows on the top ten floors give off that strange golden glow. The glitz seems more Dubai than Down Under, but it’s all meant to symbolize the Eureka stockade rebellion during the 1854 gold rush days that, according to some, led to full democratic rights in Australia.
