Dad, Mark, and I toured New Zealand on one of our round-the-world trips in the early ’80s. Its beauty had always stuck with me, and I promised myself I would return someday.
25-or-so years ago, we buried a small ‘time capsule’ at Aoraki/Mount Cook national park. I couldn’t remember exactly where we put it, but I could see a picture of it in my mind. It was at a V-junction of two trails, near the base of a white signpost, with the trail to the right going slightly uphill. All the old signs have been replaced, but this junction looked right, so I decided to take a look. Didn’t find anything, but then again I didn’t bring the heavy equipment.
Mark later confirmed that we did bury it on the Kea Point trail. I guess my memory is better than my digging.
