In search of foods unique to NZ, we discovered the Afghan in a Queenstown church bake sale. This was after discovering the country’s largest (and laziest) St. Bernard, centered in the church lawn. We chose the Afghan cookies after a thorough search of ALL the baked goods on offer.
Afghans are simply cocoa powder, butter, flour and cornflakes. Topped with chocolate icing and a walnut. Simple, yet surprisingly addictive. So, why don’t we see these cookies in the US? The Kellogg’s cereal people should seriously work on a American promotion of this provocatively-named sweet sensation.
