After the spectacle of watching Santa parade in searing summer heat during the Melbourne Christmas parade, we were eager to see what the Christchurch version had in store. True to Aussie vs. Kiwi stereotypes, the Christchurch parade was a low-key, low-budget affair, but one that seemed to pull in the entire community. If anything, it seemed even longer. It was also informative: we now know every Asian community in Christchurch.
The float pictured here was a celebration of Christchurch’s Antarctic research center. You can go on a simulated snow ride, and check out some penguins. I’d rather leave that last unvisited continent to my own imagination.
