This picture was taken at the high point of the Cusco-Puno highway. At 4,335 meters, or 14, 223 feet, you’re only a couple of hundred feet short of the highest peak in the continental US, Mount Whitney. Even with a few days of acclimatization in Cusco at 3,400 meters, you still feel short of breath on an easy hike, or after climbing a few flights of stairs. We have new respect for trekkers in Nepal.
