Peruvian cuisine is hot. It’s all the rage back in SF, and it’s trendy in Buenos Aires too. Peru has given the world so many food items that we can’t live without, like corn, potatoes, and tomatoes. But if there’s one dish that comes to mind, it’s probably not lomo soltado (beef stir-fried with onions, potatoes, and fries) or rocoto relleno (chili stuffed with spiced beef, potatoes, eggs, and cheese). You’ll probably think of ceviche.
Our lunch at one of the fanciest cevicherias in Miraflores (Alfresco) set us back about $30 for two. A small fortune in Peru, perhaps, but the menu claimed this particular version–mostly flounder–won a ‘best in Lima’ award. After a taste, I believed them.
